Inspired by the interplay of light and shadow in architectural design, particularly the works of master architects Tadao Ando and Carlo Scarpa. My inspirations help me explore how light interacts with physical structures. Concrete forms, partitions, and walls transform light, casting shadows on surfaces and altering its shape. Light can also act as a beam, with multiple light sources creating a dynamic interplay of divergent geometric shapes and overlapping patterns of light and shadow.
I used a chisel pencil to sketch each letter in both uppercase and lowercase. From there, I applied light and shadow inspirations to each letter, conveying my interpretation of the interplay between light and shadow. For the letters K and T, I explored how light can pass through a shape, revealing parts of the letter while still making the letter readable. For the letters X and Z, I focused on negative spaces, using the negative shapes provided visual cues for our eyes to see the letters.
